FLEXTRAIN (DFIRST™3.0) equipment consists of the: 1. Combat Service Support (CSS) Kit  2. Crew Served Weapon (CSW) Kit  3. Enhanced Dismount Instrumentation (EDI) 4. Dismount Detection System (DDS).

The EDI is designed to track individuals but has also shown flexibility in tracking 'non-shooter' vehicles. It is powered by two lithium batteries for approximately 40 hours of operation. In addition to the GPS tracking, the EDI has BLUE TOOTH, ultrasonic and 915 MHz communications. This redundancy supports outdoor and indoor/in-vehicle tracking. The EDI is designed to allow for future enhancements as requirements change.

The CSW Kit consists of mounting hardware and electronics required to monitor gun pointing angle and enable engagement simulation for crew served, ring mounted machine guns.(6650 .50 caliber MG Mount, MK64 & MK93 MG mount variants.)

The CSS Kit can be used to instrument a wide variety of tactical and non-tactical vehicles. It is a hybrid derived from the DFIRST HMMWV Kit with enhanced flexibility.

The CSS Kit consists of the hardware and cabling required for installation of the Common Kit components, which are used in all vehicle instrumentation and the additional equipment required to facilitate interface with other components and systems. The Auxiliary Interface Box (AIB) is part of the CSS Kit.

The DDS allows individuals equipped with the EDI to be monitored in buildings and vehicles where GPS satellite signal is blocked.
