The After-Action Review (AAR) function, which permits replay of the exercise, includes a plan view of participant maneuvers, firing events, and casualty status, along with synchronized playback of voice commands recorded from the tactical communications messages of both the attacking and defending forces. During each firing event, the type of ordnance used and the range between the shooter and the target can be displayed along with the round’s trajectory. Exercise replay selections include a fast-forward, and stop-action options. The DFIRST™ AAR provides the training officer with the tools necessary to reinforce positive actions and correct negative actions observed during the exercise. Furthermore, with recent system improvements, the AAR/map display software has been updated to be platform independent, enabling a take-home playback capability.
DFIRST™ supports gunnery training in addition to force-on-force training. The GPS-based interferometry reports gun-pointing angle, which is the basis for a range safety fan, for real-time range safety monitoring. The on-board instrumentation is fully compatible with dry-fire training and needs no modification from the configuration used for force-on-force training. Equipment is being field tested for live fire. Among DFIRST™ enhancements currently under development is an interface to range targetry for force-on-target training.
