Participant Instrumentation Package (PIP)
 
Provides the interface between the instrumented vehicle and the DFIRST™ system
 
Contains a single-board computer, two GPS receivers, high-speed digital radio transceiver, programmable interface controller, and a sound card for injecting voice "status" messages in vehicle intercoms
Interface cables connecting PIP with host power and firing functions (round-type, firing rate, weapon trigger pull)
In-vehicle display (IVD) has adjustments for brightness and volume. The IVD provides the following indicators:
 
Vehicle kill status when engaged
 
Type of round fires (shooters only)
 
Number of rounds remaining (by ammunition type)
 
PIP diagnostic information
GPS antenna (for shooters, two antennas are mounted on the main gun barrel)
RF communications antenna
Interface to Hoffman Device (provided by user)
 
Provides smoke and audio cue for the Abrams main gun
Flashwess (on all shooters)
 
Flashing strobe that replicates the multiple firings of the Bradley main gun
Combat Vehicle Kill Indicator (CVKI) (all vehicles)
 
Provides visual indication of kill status
Gyro works in tandem with GPS interferometry to maintain gun pointing angle in all environments
